Vinyl Strip and Seal
Over time, vinyl floors become dull and dirty and very hard to clean. The build up of grime and old polish and boot marks can leave a vinyl floor covering looking very old and tired. Instead of thinking about replacing the vinyl, there is a relatively straight forward and cost effective way to restore a vinyl surface: Stripping and Sealing. This process ensures all the old grime and polish is removed and a new surface is laid down, making the floor look much like new, very glossy, is anti-skid and is also a great deal easier to keep clean.
- First the floor is chemically stripped using a high strength floor stripper. This is then mechanically scrubbed, so the solution liquifies all the dirt, grime and old polish. This solution is mopped up, so the floor is now back to pure vinyl.
- Then, four coats of supermarket-grade, high gloss, water based, non-toxic polish is laid down on the vinyl, allowing each coat to dry in between. If the humidity is low, and if the air conditioning is on, these coats will dry quite quickly.
- After four coats, the surface is much like when the vinyl was new. It will be very easy to keep clean and we recommend using a neutral floor cleaner and never any products that are acidic or alkali as these can strip away the polish. Never use bleach on a vinyl floor. (If there has been any damage or deep scratches, then these will remain, as the process does not actually repair any damage).
Depending on traffic, we recommend stripping and sealing vinyl floor coverings every one to two years. Over that time, the polish acts like a sacrificial layer that protects the vinyl, and can be easily reapplied when necessary.
